Development Instructions |
|
If you've ever created a
PowerPoint presentation, you're ready to place your thoughts on Root Cause
LIVE's Learning Curve. Read the following instructions, then create
your presentation. Send it to me, preferably via snail mail on a CD
(it'll probably be too large to send via e-mail). If you have ANY
questions, don't hesitate to either call me, or send an e-mail at bobnelms@rootcauselive.com.
It's a LOT easier than it
sounds.
Don't be too concerned with
the size of your presentation. The STREAMING software compresses it
on the average of 10:1. A 10 MB PowerPoint presentation is typical
for a 10 minute, narrated slide show.

|
Step-by-step instructions:
|
-
Create
your presentation in PowerPoint.
-
Save
your presentation with SAVE AS. If you don't save in this
manner, we will not be able to translate it into STREAMING media.
-
Narrate
the Slide Show by recording a SEPARATE ".WAV" file for each
of your slides. Use your computer's build-in Sound Recorder
(usually in the Accessories Folder). Use a good microphone
(Staples, Office Max, etc. is fine). Set the MICROPHONE SETTINGS
to: 8,000 Hz, 16 bit, mono, 16Kbps. Any settings of higher
quality will be lost in the streaming translation.
-
Once you
have created a .WAV file for each slide, go to SLIDE SORTER VIEW (in
PowerPoint), right click on the first slide, click on "slide
translation," then "advance automatically after 0.00
seconds," and then click on the WAV file you created for your
first slide. Do the same for each slide.
-
Save
your NARRATED presentation with SAVE AS. If you don't save
in this manner, we will not be able to translate it.
|
|
Design
considerations:
|
-
Make sure the
first slide is " small in size," and " short on voice." The 2nd slide can
be slightly larger (in size and voice). The 3rd even larger.
If you make the first few slides too large, the viewer will become impatient
while it's loading
and will think their computer has "hung-up."
|
|
Fee Policy:
|
|
Two policies
have been established, one for Consultants (hereby called PROVIDERS) and
another for Corporate Employees (hereby called USERS). Any company who is in the business of "root cause
analysis" is a PROVIDER. Any company or corporation whose primary business activity is
NOT related to root cause analysis will be considered a USER, even though
they might train their own employees, or otherwise provide internal
company services.
|
|
PROVIDER
POLICY: A small fee will be charged for each month the presentation
is active. At present, this fee is $50.00/month. This
fee might increase as viewer rates (hit rates) rise. In exchange for
this fee, I will translate your presentation into STREAMING media suitable
for display on the web. You will also be supplied with the e-mail
address of everyone attending your Webinar. Finally, I will be
adding one slide to your presentation asking for feedback on your
webinar. You will be supplied a copy of this feedback as it occurs.
Whereas
consultants are allowed to develop sales-related presentations, please be
advised that people are looking for USEFUL, PRACTICAL and BASIC ideas
about how to identify and resolve the root causes of their problems.
Direct sales pitches are probably more appropriate on your own web sites.
|
|
USER
POLICY: This service will be provided at no charge for Corporate
Employees wishing to share their experiences about root cause
analysis. Although you will NOT be supplied with the e-mail
addresses of those attending your session, you will be forwarded anonymous
feedback so that you can learn along with your viewers..
